What's the Difference between 100% Online and In-Person Learning?

Deciding on the best learning format for your high school experience is an important step toward your success. At Options For Youth (OFY), we offer flexible programs designed to meet your individual learning style and needs. Whether you're looking for a 100% online experience or a more in-person approach, we have an option that fits you. But how do you decide which is right for you? Let’s break it down.

1. Do You Prefer Learning from Home or in a Classroom?

100% Online – If you enjoy learning from the comfort of your home, setting your own schedule, and working independently with virtual support, this option is ideal. You'll still have access to teacher guidance, online instruction, and interactive assignments, all without needing to be in a physical classroom. What makes OFY unique is that our online programs also include student groups and activities such as field trips, volunteering, etc. So while your classes are online, the program has options for you to step out of your screen.

In-Person (Blended Learning Model) – If you thrive in a collaborative environment with face-to-face interaction, our in-person option provides small-group instruction, Independent Study (IS), and online learning. This model allows you to balance flexibility with hands-on classroom support. This learning model includes physical space for you to collaborate with your teachers and peers along with getting in-person support from your tutors.

2. How Much Support Do You Need?

100% Online – Teachers are available virtually to support you, answer questions, and keep you on track. If you’re self-motivated and can manage your time well, this is a great option.

In-Person – You’ll have direct access to teachers and peers, which can be beneficial if you learn best through discussions, guided instruction, and in-person collaboration. If you like knowing that a teacher is physically there to help, this might be the best fit for you.

3. What Kind of Learning Experience Motivates You?

100% Online – You’ll have the flexibility to complete coursework at your own pace. This option works well if you have outside commitments like a job, family responsibilities, and prefer to work from the comfort of your home. Our 100% online learning at OFY still provides the same support as our In-Person program, with student groups and activities that you can participate in!

In-Person – The structured schedule and small group instruction (SGI) provide a more interactive learning experience. You’ll have opportunities for face-to-face engagement, group work, and immediate teacher feedback.

Student Perspective: Why Flexibility Matters

Liliana R., a previous student, found that flexibility was the key to her success at OFY:

“The school is a lot more flexible and made me enjoy getting my work done. My teacher was by my side the whole time and made me feel comfortable since the day I got here.”

Her experience highlights the supportive environment OFY provides—whether online or in-person, our teachers are committed to helping you succeed.

Making the Right Choice for You

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to learning. The right choice depends on your personal learning style, schedule, and the level of support you need. The good news? OFY gives you the flexibility to choose!
