OFY Launches Social Media Engagement Campaign: #CAWantsOptions

OFY recently announced the launch of #CAWantsOptions, a California-focused social media campaign highlighting greater educational options for California’s youth. It’s all part of a statewide effort by OFY to give parents and students in California schools direct access to critical information on their academic needs.

Why did we decide on #CAWantsOptions?

Well, for starters, California parents have said publicly that’s what they want. In a recent poll by the Broad Foundation, nearly 75% of surveyed respondents offered support for expanding public charter schools in their neighborhoods and nearly 70 percent expressed a desire for additional public charters.

The impetus for the campaign also stems from recognition of National School Choice Week, an annual advocacy movement designed to spark discussion on the varied types of quality educational opportunities families want for their children. Through social media vehicles such as Twitter and Facebook, #CAWantsOptions will not only raise awareness, but also serve as a digital entry point for parents and students in California searching for a local or neighborhood school that meets their educational needs. For example, many families in California are not aware that the state allows parents to pursue transfers or admissions to other publicly-funded schools and options.

Options for Youth will share a constant stream information through public discussion, thought leadership and digital engagement around #CAWantsOptions.
